Read the percentage with its time window
Precipitation probability describes the chance of measurable precipitation at a location during the stated forecast period. A 40% chance is not a prediction that it will rain for 40% of the day. The hourly forecast helps you compare the periods that matter for your plans. Rain amount and rain probability are different measurements.
Nearby places can have different afternoons
Central Florida’s sea breezes, moisture and local boundaries can help storms develop unevenly. Conditions at a nearby airport will not always match a lakefront walk in Clermont. Use the forecast for the Clermont point, look at the latest radar, and check again as your departure approaches. A morning forecast cannot promise the exact arrival time of an afternoon storm.
Radar is a recent picture, not a promise
Radar helps show where precipitation has been detected. Check the image time and movement across several frames. New storms can form, existing storms can weaken, and a clear image is not a guarantee for the next hour.
When you hear thunder
Move into a substantial enclosed building or a hard-topped vehicle. An open pavilion or tree is not a suitable lightning shelter. National Weather Service guidance is to wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder before returning outside.
